The Order of Australia is a prestigious honor awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to the nation or humanity at large. It was established by Queen Elizabeth II on the advice of then Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. Before its establishment, Australians were eligible for British honors, which continued until 1992.

The Order of the Crown of Italy was founded as a national order in 1868 by King Vittorio Emanuele II, to commemorate the unification of Italy in 1861. It was awarded in five degrees for civilian and military merit. It was awarded for Meritorious Service or Achievement.
