WWII U.S. Legion of Merit Medal with Presentation Case
A United States Legion of Merit decoration presented with its fitted case. Established during the Second World War, the Legion of Merit is one of the most prestigious military decorations awarded by the United States.
Historical Background
The Legion of Merit was established by an Act of Congress on July 20, 1942, during the Second World War.
The decoration was created to recognize exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
Unlike many American military decorations, the Legion of Merit was designed with a system of degrees for foreign recipients, reflecting the traditions of European orders of merit.
The four degrees are Chief Commander, Commander, Officer, and Legionnaire. American military personnel receive the Legion of Merit without designation of degree.
During the Second World War, the decoration was awarded to American military personnel and distinguished foreign military leaders for exceptional service and achievements supporting the Allied war effort.
Why It Was Awarded
The Legion of Merit recognizes exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
Recipients have included senior military officers, commanders, and other service members whose accomplishments demonstrated exceptional responsibility, leadership, or professional achievement.
The decoration remains in use by the United States Armed Forces today.

A beautiful pair of WW1 German Major Shoulder boards for the 12th Infantry regiment. The cyphers are attached and not lose, looks like the pair was attached to a uniform at one point and show very little wear.
WW2 German ribbon bar metal tab back style with maker’s mark. The catch is missing but would still make a nice display piece.
