$59.95

Original WWII German West Wall Medal – With Original Issue Packet

An original Second World War German West Wall Medal (Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen), accompanied by its original paper issue packet.

The medal retains an attractive aged bronze-colored finish, with clearly defined details and natural surface toning. The accompanying packet displays the original German decoration designation and shows age-related discoloration consistent with historical storage.

Historical Background

The West Wall Medal was instituted on August 2, 1939, to recognize military personnel, civilian workers, and members of Organisation Todt who contributed to the construction of Germany's western defensive fortifications.

Known as the Westwall or Siegfried Line, this extensive network of fortifications stretched along Germany's western frontier and included reinforced concrete bunkers, defensive positions, antitank obstacles, and supporting military infrastructure.

The construction program formed an important part of Germany's military preparations in the years preceding the Second World War.

The medal was later awarded for qualifying service associated with the defense of the West Wall during the closing stages of the war.

Medal Design

The obverse features a German national eagle above crossed military engineering implements and a representation of fortified defenses, surrounded by an oak-leaf wreath.

The reverse bears the inscription Für Arbeit zum Schutze Deutschlands, translating to "For Work in the Defense of Germany."

The original paper packet is printed with the designation Deutsches Schutzwall-Ehrenzeichen.
